NEW RECYCLING SUPPORT OFFICERS FOR SOUTH BEDFORDSHIRE HERE TO HELP US ALL STOP WASTING MONEY
Published by webmaster for South Bedfordshire District Council in Communities
South Bedfordshire District Council is once again showing its commitment to the environment and reducing landfill by expanding its recycling team.
Three new Recycling Support Officers have joined the team to help residents with questions concerning the launch of the alternate weekly collections and increase the amount of recycling within South Bedfordshire.
As well as being at events throughout the district over the next few months (details attached) the team will also take part in home visits on request to show residents how to reduce their waste, what can and cannot be recycled, and the benefits of putting less household waste into their black wheelie bin.
As you may know the Government will be imposing hefty fines on all local authorities who do not reduce waste going to landfill. If we do not manage to reduce the waste we create in South Bedfordshire it could have an effect on the taxes we will all have to pay and a serious impact on the future of our environment.
At the moment South Bedfordshire District Council supplies each house with one black bin for household waste and orange bags for recycling, this is suitable for the average household. To further help recycling we provide a green bin for garden waste and we will be delivering an orange bin in July and August to replace the orange sack for dry recyclables, prior to the introduction of the new alternate weekly service on the 3rd September 2007.
Over the next few weeks the team will be auditing households with more than one bin. All homeowners will be notified of the results of the audit and will have to justify why they may need an existing extra bin for their domestic waste.
Environmental Services Manager Basil Quinn said: "These three new Recycling Officers will be seen all over South Bedfordshire in the coming months. They'll be able to answer any questions about recycling and give top tips on how to reduce, reuse and recycle. The expansion of our recycling team is just another way that South Bedfordshire District Council is proving its commitment to reducing landfill waste which is not only damaging the environment but costing tax payers un-necessary expense".
