A woman has been charged in connection with an infant found dead in a plastic bag on a riverbank, police said today.

The 26-year-old from Alcester, Warwickshire, who has not been named, has been charged with concealing a birth.

The child, named "Baby Lilly" by police, was discovered in a plastic bag near the River Alne at Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire, on May 11 last year.

Two post mortem examinations on the little girl revealed she had suffered several serious injuries, including a fractured skull and collarbone.

Baby Lilly's death touched the hearts of the local community. More than 80 people gathered to pay their respects at her funeral service in Great Alne in September, and a headstone was paid for with public donations.

The woman will appear before magistrates in Stratford on March 16.
