Proposals to develop Colchester's Town Hall into a prestigious location for family events, conferences and exhibitions are one step nearer to becoming a real possibility.

With significant work to be undertaken to bring the Town Hall in line with the Disability Discrimination Act over the next three years it will enable the building to open its doors for a wide choice of events that don't just focus on civic events.  

Councillor Nick Taylor Portfolio Holder for Resources said:" The Town Hall has a wealth of history which is unique to the town and that you won't find anywhere else in the borough or the surrounding area. 

"With its grand and ornate layout the Town Hall really has the potential to become a leading attraction for weddings and other functions as it offers plenty of room along with beautiful décor."

The future proposals of the Town Hall are set to be discussed at the Colchester Borough Council Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 14 March.
