Members of Dunstable and District Disabled Sports (DADDS) were joined by a special guest last week when the Chairman of South Bedfordshire District Council, Councillor Pat Hamill, popped into Dunstable Leisure Centre for a tour of the charity’s facilities.

DADDS meet at the leisure centre every Tuesday between 1 and 3pm. Around 90 people with disabilities spend the afternoon taking part a host of sports including badminton, boccia, basketball, swimming, hockey, wheelchair football, dancing and board games. The Harpers Fitness Suite at the leisure centre has also been adapted to make it easier for people with disabilities to use.

Anyone who has a disability, be it physical or mental, is welcome to go along to DADDS. The group are also looking for volunteers to help run the activities. No experience is necessary, just a few spare hours on a Tuesday afternoon and willingness to have fun.

DADDS will be one of the charities to benefit from the Chairman’s fundraising activities this year. Councillor Hamill said: “DADDS is such a worthwhile charity. I had a great time when I visited them and it was excellent to see so many people getting involved in the games and sports. I hope that residents of South Bedfordshire will support my fundraising activities this year so we can help DADDS continue the positive work they are doing.”

If you would like to go along to DADDS to take part or help out call Margaret Luther on 01582 601725 or email her at meeluther9@tiscali.co.uk.
