Family affair for first residents in flagship development

Delighted father and daughter Albert Preston and Maureen Ozenbrook have become the first residents to move into a flagship Nottinghamshire development for older people.

Hilton Grange, of Leahurst Road, in West Bridgford, has cost £6.5 million and is built on the site of the former Hilton Court sheltered housing complex.

Developed by affordable housing provider Rushcliffe Homes, the regenerated site sets new standards for quality accommodation for older people in the area, with 62 flats, all with two bedrooms, being offered for sale and affordable rent, with a host of support services on offer.

Maureen, aged 62, and her 89-year-old father, who have separate apartments, had been residents in the older 40-unit Hilton Court before being moved to alternative accommodation while the two-year regeneration and expansion of the site was undertaken. Now they are delighted to be back.

“Hilton Grange is fantastic. You can see everything has been finished to a high standard but I don’t think you get the full scale of it until you go around the back and see the amazing space with the landscaped garden,” said Maureen as she moved in this week.

“Inside it is very light and airy. I have a two-bedroom, first floor flat with a balcony. It is close to all the local amenities too.

“I have moved around a lot over the last four or five years so am looking forward to settling in. I think it is going to be a very exciting place to live.”

Fifteen of the flats offer extra care support – with a dedicated team of care staff on hand to help frailer residents on a daily basis. Residents will enjoy a host of on-site features, like a lounge, library and landscaped gardens, as well as access to an emergency alarm system and support from an on-site scheme manager.

The three-storey scheme, built in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, also features integrated CCTV, secure door entry, parking for residents and visitors, a laundry, storage and charging for mobility scooters, an internet suite and two lifts.

“The project has inevitably meant a certain amount of upheaval for some of our residents but they have all been fantastic. We are now proud to offer older people a living environment which sets new standards for comfort and quality.”

The Housing Corporation has put £450,000 into the project to help fund the affordable rent flats.
