CITIZONE IN LEIGHTON BUZZARD IS TAKING SHAPE

South Bedfordshire District Council is working closely with Leighton-Linslade Town Council towards the opening of the new Citizone Points of Presence in April 2007.

Citizone will operate from Bossard House and it will incorporate the Town Council’s successful Community Information Centre, which was established in the White House in April 2005.

The Town Council will be contributing staff and financial support for the Citizone.

Councillor Russ Goodchild, Vice Chair of the Policy and Finance Committee with

Leighton-Linslade Town Council said: "Leighton-Linslade Town Council has

operated its own Community Information Centre (CIC)  for nearly two years and, not

only has this proved to be a great success, but the team members have gained

considerable experience in dealing with the vast diversity of customer queries. 

We are pleased to be involved with the District and County Councils in establishing

a 'Citizone' and putting that experience to good use."

Leighton-Linslade Town Clerk Pat Kingsnorth said: “This joint venture will be an exciting one stop shop for local residents who wish to access information and services offered by the Town, District and County Councils.”  The Citizone will offer local access to the full range of District Council Services (including Benefits and Housing). The existing services currently offered by the Community Information Centre will transfer to Bossard House, including the monthly visits by the Pensions Service, Age Concern and the Disability Resource Centre.  

Councillor Carole Hegley who has executive responsibility for customer service at the District Council said: “I am delighted with this opportunity for all levels of local government to work together to provide a first service for our community. The project is about much more than a building and by working in partnership we will be able to make services more accessible and promote the continued prosperity of the town and surrounding areas.”
