The revitalisation of one of the county's top tourism attractions will be closer to completion if County Council Cabinet members approve proposals at their meeting next week.

The Bosworth Battlefield site has already opened a new Tithe Barn restaurant in 2005 and Heritage Room education facility in 2006.  A lifelike medieval village is also developing on this popular site.  The next major event will be the opening of a new exhibition which will explain the Battle story to visitors.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has granted funds of just under £1 million to support the archaeological investigation, the heritage education room and the visitor centre.  If the County Council, which manages Bosworth Battlefield, approves an extra £150,000 the exhibition at the Centre will be better than ever.

Visitors will be able to learn about the lives of people who were drawn into the Battle, and the impacts of the Battle itself through archaeological finds, hands-on and computer interactives, a Battlefield investigation lab and living history.  A medieval surgeon at work will be one of the star attractions.

The County Council will work with Silver Knight Exhibitions, of Arley, Coventry, on the construction of the exhibition, which is planned to open later this year.

Cabinet will discuss the report on January 11.
