School students quiz Councillor about his job in promoting Enterprise
Published by webmaster for Colchester Borough Council in Communities
Borough councillor, Don Henshall, visited St Benedict's College today to chat with Student Council members about his Council Cabinet role in promoting local business development.
Scheduled as part of Local Democracy Week, the meeting was aimed at helping young people learn more about their local council and the work of its councillors. St Benedict's has specialist status in Enterprise and Business so Cllr Henshall's meeting helped students gain more awareness of how the local authority helps to achieve economic prosperity.
After observing 80 students - half of Year 10 - working on an enterprise activity, Cllr Henshall outlined the major projects happening in the Borough and described how he and Council officers are working together to ensure that these major changes will create more jobs and business opportunities for local people.
Councillor Don Henshall, portfolio holder for business, said: "The work of the Council affects so many people. It was great to be able to meet these young people and explain what we do in terms of boosting business and job creation in the town."
