Construction work will begin in January on Chesterfield Borough Council's new Healthy Living Centre in Staveley, Chesterfield.
The main contractors, Yorkshire-based Caddick Construction, say the building work at Barlow Road, in the centre of Staveley, will last for 50 weeks.
If everything goes according to schedule, the Centre will open to the public in March, 2008.
The £8m centre replaces the crumbling Middlecroft Leisure Centre which was closed this summer and has now been demolished. It will feature a 25-metre swimming pool with adjustable floor, 150-station fitness suite, children's exercise area, health spa, dance studios,11m climbing wall, bouldering room, indoor soft play arena, crèche, meeting room and coffee bar.
The facility is being funded by Chesterfield Borough Council.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Ray Russell, said: "We are delighted that we are able to meet our promise to the community in providing leisure facilities and that a timetable has now been worked out for the work to finally get underway."
Cllr David Stone, the Borough's Lead Member for Healthy Communities and Leisure, added: "The new facilities will provide a boost for the local economy, with the creation of over 70 jobs."
John Williams, marketing manager of Caddick Construction Ltd, said: "We have built a number of health and fitness centres throughout the north of England and we are delighted to be associated with Chesterfield Borough Council in this project."
