Be safe on Bonfire Night
Published by webmaster for Chesterfield Borough Council in Communities
Bonfire Night revellers are being urged to attend only registered events during this year's Guy Fawkes celebrations.
In a scheme originally pioneered by Chesterfield Borough Council, District and Borough Councils throughout the county have joined forces with Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service to encourage pubs, clubs, schools and other event organisers to get their displays registered under the voluntary regional scheme.
As in previous years, organisers who apply for registration to their local councils are visited by Fire and Rescue Service representatives and offered information and advice on staging a safer event.
Registered events must make sure displays are carefully planned and staged. Issues include choosing the right display position, crowd control and making sure the event is properly supervised.
Cllr Keith Morgan, Chesterfield Borough Council's Lead Member for Environmental Services, said: “We want Bonfire Night to be both safe and fun.
“Registered events mean organisers have discussed their plans with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and received relevant information and advice to help them enjoy successful celebrations.”
Organisers of bonfires in Chesterfield wanting an application pack to join the scheme, or anyone requiring more information on the Bonfire Registration Scheme, should contact the Borough Council on 01246 3455749.
