Chesterfield Borough Council has announced a new hard-line policy and has warned people who dump their junk on Chesterfield’s roads and back alleys that they will not get away with ruining our environment.

Enforcement officers at Chesterfield Borough Council already take an active role against fly-tippers who treat the Borough like a giant tip by dumping their unwanted rubbish.

Cllr Keith Morgan, the Borough's Lead Member for Environmental Services, said: “We will not put up with people dumping their rubbish wherever they please. Fly-tipping is unacceptable. It is ugly, dangerous and costs Council Tax payers’ money.

“We are already active in our fight against fly-tipping and are planning an increased number of random trade waste checks later in the year. These are designed to ensure that businesses holding waste have evidence to prove that they are a registered waste carrier.

“We also have the power to stop and search vehicles so that we can make sure their waste is being disposed of properly.

“We urge anyone who has any information about fly-tipping to come forward. By working together we have a far better chance of catching the culprits of this ugly crime. This way we can make sure that Chesterfield is left unspoilt.”

Anyone with any information about fly-tipping in the Borough should report it by ringing Chesterfield Borough Council’s Spirepride hotline on 01246 345735.
