Chesterfield Tourist Information Centre has struck silver after being voted runner-up in the Best TIC category at the 2006 East Midland Tourism Enjoy England Excellence Award ceremony held on Thursday, September 28 at Goosedale Conference Centre at Papplewick in Nottinghamshire.
The gold award for Best Tourist Information Centre went to Leicester TIC and the bronze award to Ashby-de-la-Zouch TIC.
Chesterfield's silver award was presented to TIC staff members Cath Walker and Kerry Sheldon and Cllr Ray Russell, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council.
It is the latest in a long line of awards for the Chesterfield Tourist Information Centre, which is situated in the shadow of Chesterfield’s famous Crooked Spire Church. These include winning the East Midland regional award in 2003 and 2004 and the 'Best in Britain' award last year.
Cllr Russell said: “This is a tremendous accolade for the Borough and I would like to pay tribute to the staff of the Tourist Information Centre.”
