MORE AWARDS BECKONING FOR TOURIST INFORMATION CENTRE?
Published by webmaster for Salisbury District Council in Communities
Salisbury's award-winning Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has been shortlisted for yet another prestigious award.
The centre is one of three finalists in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards, for the best tourist information centre in the region.
They will be fighting for the south west crown against Dorchester (last year's regional winner) and Falmouth.
But the district council-run Salisbury Tourist Information Centre certainly has the right pedigree in these awards.
In 2004 Salisbury was crowned the best tourist information centre in England, in the Excellence in England tourism awards. Winning in that year meant the centre could not re-enter the 2005/6 awards.
And that was the second time in just six years that Salisbury was judged to be the best in the country.
They also picked up the gong in 1998 and were also awarded the runner-up prize in 2002. Not to mention the fact they have also won the south west prize on three occasions.
Salisbury TIC manager, Jane Fry, said: "We are absolutely delighted that we have once again been shortlisted for the regional awards after taking time out from entering.
"The standards for these awards rise every year, which means we have to keep raising our standards too, which benefits all the people who use our services.
"Being shortlisted is an honour but we really hope that we will judged the best in the south west again."
The winners of the south west awards will be announced at a ceremony on 16 October. And for the winners, it doesn't end there. They go on to represent the south
west in the national finals – Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2006/7.
Salisbury District Council's portfolio holder for Planning and Economic Development, Cllr Margaret Peach, said: "I am thrilled that the excellent service provided by the Tourist Information Centre has once again been deservedly recognised.
"Tourism is very important to the economy of Salisbury District and it is essential that we offer a first service to all our visitors and residents and Salisbury TIC does just that."
