SS Insignia

Two men who were arrested by German police after allegedly being found daubed with Nazi symbols following the England v Paraguay World Cup match appeared before an English court today.

Kristopher Phillip Dunn, 23, and Gordon Thomas, 21, both from the Bolton area, were arrested yesterday by West Yorkshire Police at Leeds Bradford Airport after they were released from German custody and flew home.

They appeared before magistrates in Leeds where the Crown Prosecution Service is applying for them to have Football Banning Orders imposed against them.

Thomas, of The Avenue, Haulgh, and Dunn, of Colchester Drive, Bolton, spoke only to confirm their identities.

They were given bail by the court and ordered to appear again this afternoon at 2pm when the application for the orders will be heard.

The pair were arrested in a city centre plaza in Frankfurt on Saturday.

The court heard how they had Nazi insignia painted on their bodies.

Thomas had SS symbols in red paint on his back, the court was told.

Both men were released by the German authorities after Dunn paid a surety of 100 euro (£68) and Thomas paid a surety of 50 euro (£34).

The court heard they might still face prosecution in Germany.

Dunn and Thomas emerged from the courtroom at lunchtime clutching suitcases, but said nothing.

The case is due to resume later today.
