Representatives from Anchor Trust and Coventry City Council have agreed (Friday 24 March) a multi-million pound PFI deal to provide 200 new housing and care units for older people.

The deal, which is worth approximately £5 million a year over 25 years, will see the construction of a combination of Integrated Care and Housing (ICH) schemes and care homes for people with dementia.

The services planned are:

Belgrave Lodge, Attoxall Road, Wyken - An Integrated Care and Housing (ICH) scheme with 34 flats Parkview, Everdon Road, Holbrooks - ICH scheme with 40 flats Stoke Heath, Heath Crescent, Stoke Heath - ICH scheme with 46 flats and a specialist dementia care home with 40 beds Craven House, Quorn Way, Binley - a specialist dementia care home with 40 beds

Integrated Care and Housing (ICH) is Anchor's model of Extra Care, which gives older people the independence and privacy of living in a flat or house with the added security of on-site care services.   As residents' care needs increase, so does the level of support they receive in their home, without the need to move house.

Coventry City Council has tendered all services including care and construction to Anchor ICH but will maintain control over who will be nominated to live at the schemes.  Once the contract has expired, ownership of the housing will revert to Coventry City Council who will review the situation to consider its ongoing position.

Speaking at the public signing at Coventry ICH scheme Alexandra House,  Anchor Trust Chief Executive John Belcher said: "We are delighted to have agreed this deal with Coventry City Council.  It is wonderful to be making such a contribution to the housing and care of older people in Coventry."

Press release issued: March 27 2006.
