Ian Blackhurst, Managing Director of Northgate Public Services, said today:“The HMIC report says that the police will have to make hard choices about how they use their resources. It also indicates that these should be informed choices. While much of the debate has focused on the proportion of the workforce within the police that is on the frontline, it is essential that equal consideration is given to how resources are used and whether existing processes are the best way to deliver the right outcomes for the public.”
“Visible policing is an essential part of rebuilding public trust in policing. Yet so too is ensuring that resources are used in the right way at the right time. We have long argued that a national shared service for demand management could be introduced for the police at no cost. This would not only deliver significant efficiencies over the lifetime of the government but also create better policing to the public for less.”
