National Neighbourhood Justice BTEC Student of the Year Award 2009 National Neighbourhood Justice BTEC Student of the Year Award 2009

More from Safety Net Associates Limited

The winner of the "National Neighbourhood Justice BTEC Student of the Year Award 2009" receives a 5 day all expenses paid study visit to New York City, USA.

The student will be accompanied and supervised by Safety Net Associates academic staff and the Mayor of New York's Office.

The purpose of the visit is to research and compare neighbourhood justice approaches to Anti Social Behaviour and Restorative Justice in the UK and NYC.

The winner will be based at the internationally renowned John Jay College of Criminal Justice, NY and have full access as a student to the extensive Lloyd Sealy Library, including induction training on how to use the library.

The itinerary can include, if the student wishes, a visit to Precinct 44 (The Bronx) under the direct supervision of NYPD Detectives. This could also include a supervised ride around the study area in an NYPD patrol car to experience first hand the neighbourhood being compared.

The student will also have pre-arranged access to staff from all community partners working in ASB and RJ in the Bronx District.

The research project findings will be presented to the Home Secretary for consideration and published in the "Student Learning Zone" Research Library.

Bob Kennett, Safety Net Associates Academic Director said:
"This prestigious award and important piece of research work is deliberately designed each year to encourage all students to continue their studies or to join the National Neighbourhood Justice BTEC programme."

"I would urge all practitioners and organisations to get involved in the competition this year and in the National Programme in 2010 when another international study visit will be arranged."
