John Hemming MP, the Chairman of Justice for Families, has challenged the GMC to demonstrate why families who want to talk to the press about the GMC hearing currently going on cannot do so openly.
He said: "I am amazed at the attempts by the GMC to keep the families out of the media. I have written to the GMC to ask for them to give documentary evidence justifying their claims.
"The Special Case files that this hearing is about were kept out of the Family Courts. If the families wish to speak openly to the media there is nothing to prevent them. Clayton v Clayton makes this entirely clear. I cannot understand what the GMC are doing."
"It is important for justice that things are dealt with openly. I have, today, referred the GMC's lack of action dealing with the references about the Research of David Southall to the CHRE. The GMC are trying to keep their role as regulator for Doctors. Their behaviour today does not warrant that responsibility."
