In North Somerset there are an estimated 22,000 people, including children, who provide unpaid care and support to an adult. In the UK, this number rises to over six million. The estimated value of this unpaid care and support is £119 billion - more than the total spend on the National Health Service.
From May, Alliance Living will lead a new partnership called The Crossroads Alliance, which will support the invaluable work that carers do. A new carer's support service based at Weston Hospital is also being launched.
