TPAS Awards 2013 TPAS Awards 2013

The Hyde Plus Youth Bank project was highly commended at TPAS regional awards last Friday 1st March. The project faced stiff competition in the Excellence in Youth Involvement category, so staff were delighted when the project was recognised in this way.

Speaking after the event Hyde Plus Youth Development Co-ordinator Emma Sweatman said: “We are really pleased TPAS has recognised the success of Hyde Youth Bank and delighted that members of the youth bank panel  have been given the credit they deserve for their hard work and commitment.”

Launched in 2011, Hyde Youth Bank gives grants of up to £500 to groups of young people to run community projects in their area. It engages young people both as grant givers and as applicants and empowers them to make funding decisions that shape their communities – they decide how the Youth Bank is managed and run, set the funding criteria for grants and decide which projects get the money.

The Hyde Youth Bank panel members, all aged between 14 and 19 complete an accredited training programme that covers grant-making, decision-making, budgeting, publicity and team-building. To date 28 community projects have been awarded up to £500 each, benefiting an estimated 1600  young people.

Hyde also had two other entries short-listed in the TPAS Southern region finals for their work in Resident Engagement. The first for the Residents Annual Review which was produced alongside a panel of Hyde residents and the other for Excellence in Working Together category recognising Hyde’s unique approach to resident engagement. Well done to everyone involved in those projects and good luck for next month in the TPAS Central region finals, where the Minster RAC has been shortlisted, again in the Excellence in Working Together category.
