24housing magazine has launched its Young Leaders Award for 2012 and is calling on housing organisations of all shapes and sizes to submit candidates for the top prize.

Now in its second year, the award is calling on housing providers to nominate candidates that have the potential to reach senior management level.

Following careful selection, the top 12 candidates will then battle it out in an online vote with the 'Top five' set tasks for a chance to be crowned 2012's winner.

The top five candidates will be assessed by an independent panel of judges with the winner crowned in a special Top 30 under 30 supplement published next August.

This year's winner Clair Ord, a customer insight manager at ALMO Dale and Valley Homes, said: "Finding out I had won was amazing. The competition has been going on all year and I knew I was in the last five but I really did not expect to be the winner.

"There were some real high flyers in the contest but I think the judges were impressed because I started at Dale & Valley Homes as an apprentice with no real idea what I wanted to do."

Ord, 28, decided to donate the prize – a three-day management and leadership course provided by Reed Learning – to 18-year-old Kimberley Batey, who works in her customer insight team.

Not only will 2012's winner receive a short course in management or leadership worth up to the value of £1,500, but they'll also win an iPad and a day shadowing National Housing Federation chief David Orr.
