Essex County Council has given £20,000 to help arts projects in the county, it has been revealed.
The council has funded several arts projects through the 'Arts in Essex Small Grants Scheme'.
Over 45 applicants applied for the grant scheme and £95,828 was requested. The council offered grants to 13 of the successful applicants.
The funding will allow performers and artists in the area to provide entertainment for people living in the county according to Essex's Cabinet member for heritage, culture and the arts.
County councillor Jeremy Lucas said: "This scheme is a great help to artists in Essex. This vital funding could really help an art project get off the ground and allow more people across the county to see the great talent we have here in Essex."
The Harlow Steel band is one of the projects that will benefit as a result of the funding. The money will enable the band to put on ten performances as part of the Explore Culture: OneWorld Festival.
Another project, Arts Industry, will also receive funding to create a series of art workshops with elderly residents of Sheltered Housing Schemes in Epping and an art project in Colchester which allows artists in the area to display their work in empty shop windows for all passers by to enjoy will also benefit.
The Arts in Essex Small Grants Scheme offers project support of
between £200 and £2,500 to individuals and groups who
are running schemes that benefit the people of Essex.
