Event - Positive approaches to Safeguarding and Risk
Published by In Control for In Control in Local Government and also in Health
Social care charity, In Control, will be hosting an event on Tuesday 29 June 2010 to explore the many complex issues around safeguarding and risk management in personalised social care.
The full-day session will examine the issues faced by the sector, exploring examples of best practice and progress being made on a national level. In Control will also launch a series of practical guides on safeguarding and positive approaches to risk management that have been developed in partnership with a number of local authorities.
Topics include the legal framework, the mental capacity act, research findings on elder abuse, risk management tools, meeting expectations and the balance between empowerment and abandonment. There will also be a thought provoking presentation by AFTA Thought, a forum theatre training company.
The day will be opened by Jeff Jerome, National Director for Social Care Transformation, and other key note speakers include Sarah Carr, Senior Research Analyst from the Social Care Institute for Excellence, Cumbria County Council and Michael Mandelstam, an independent legal consultant to the health and social care field.
Delegates will also be given the opportunity to take part in a variety of workshops, including two delivered by people who use services and wish to share their experiences about risk in their lives.
The event will be held at the Kingsway Hall Hotel, London.
