Leicester City Council workers have returned to a blackened
office block after a fire broke out.
Firefighters were called to the King Street offices at 9am on
Sunday, where they spent twenty minutes bringing the blaze under
control.
Flames caught hold on the fifth floor of B Block, which was
evacuated.
Six fire engines were called to the incident, along with
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue's hazardous support unit, aerial
platform and command support vehicle.
Two jets and six firefighters with breathing apparatus extinguished
the flames.
Damage to the fifth and fourth floor was damped down and all but
one fire engine had left the scene by 2.30pm.
Investigating officers have yet to find a cause for the fire.
Council chief executive Sheila Lock said: "Both blocks are open as
usual (on Monday), and all staff should report to work unless they
are contacted by their manager to say otherwise.
"We do have some fire damage to contend with, but have good
business continuity plans in place to ensure that work can continue
as usual.
"I would like to reassure members of the public that it will be
business as usual for us, and that none of our frontline services
will be affected.
"I would also like to thank the fire service and the police for
their prompt action and excellent support."
