Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council has announced the appointment of Pam Smith as the authority's new Executive Director for Transformation.

As part of the council’s change agenda, Pam will strategically lead its cross-cutting transformation programme ‘Stepping Up’, and will oversee the council’s corporate services including finance, communications, customer services, policy, performance and organisational development.

Pam previously worked as the council’s Head of Performance and Development and is credited with overseeing the council’s recent improvement from a two to a three star authority. She has been with the council for two years and previously worked at the Audit Commission.

Going forward, Pam is tasked to build on the foundations already in place and accelerate the pace of change throughout the organisation to meet the needs of people and to ensure services continue to strive for performance-focused cultures.

She explains: “Rochdale has immense potential and I am excited by the challenge of delivering against the council’s ambitious improvement programme to make a real difference to people’s lives.

“Working with the wider leadership team and with partners, I intend to ensure that the council maximises its potential to deliver only excellent and improving services that are both value for money and that meet customer needs.”

Council Leader, Alan Taylor said: “Since joining the council two years ago Pam has worked hard to deliver real changes that make a positive difference to people’s lives. She is passionate about the borough and committed to making a real and lasting difference.

“I am confident that she work quickly to build on the strong foundations already in place to deliver transformation.”

Born and bred in neighbouring Oldham, Pam is married with one daughter.

Pam is expected to take up her appointment with immediate effect. She succeeds Margaret Carney, who has recently taken up post as Chief Executive of Sefton Borough Council.
