Worcestershire County Council has fought off strong competition to win the Society of Procurement Officers in Local Government (SOPO) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Procurement 2008.

The award in the County Council category was presented at the annual SOPO Conference on 4 November 2008 in recognition of the excellent work the Council has undertaken on their passenger transport eAuction programme.

The eAuction programme, hosted by eProcurement specialists BravoSolution, and funded by Improvement and Efficiency West Midlands has been running for over 12 months and has delivered savings in excess of £1m.

Michael Howard, Strategic Procurement Manager at Worcestershire County Council, said: “We are delighted to have received this award, it is a real endorsement of the innovative work we are undertaking at Worcestershire County Council and an acknowledgement of all the hard work put in.”

Wayne Welsby, Project Manager at Improvement and Efficiency West Midlands, said: “It’s fantastic that Worcestershire County Council has landed this award and a clear example to others that the use of eProcurement tools and techniques can bring big benefits to Local Authorities”.
