TODAY IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT

RESIDENTS who want to help enhance local democracy and promote standards and ethics in Richmondshire are being urged to apply to join a key Council committee.

Richmondshire District Councils Standards Committee aims to maintain high standards of conduct by elected Members of the District Council and of parish councils within the district.

The Committee currently comprises four independent members, together with six elected Members of the Council and two parish council representatives.

Independent members should be local people, with an interest in local issues, who are committed to the achievement of the highest standards in public life. Ideally, they should have some experience of working in a committee or panel setting.

The post is voluntary, and does not carry any salary or allowance, but independent members are eligible for travel and subsistence expenses.

The closing date for applications is Friday, September 19.

To apply, contact Michael Dowson, Head of Democratic Services, on 01748 827088 or email michael.dowson@richmondshire.gov.uk.
