THOUSANDS of Richmondshire residents will be urged to get gym fit at Colburn Sports Centre, thanks to a partnership of organisations working together.
A targeted campaign, Get Gym Fit For Life, will run for 50 days throughout August and September, encouraging as many people as possible to adopt a more healthy lifestyle.
Adults in Richmondshire are welcome to attend, with many residents targeted via an insert in a free newspaper reaching at least 10,876 addresses.
This will be backed up by publicity in Colburn Sports Centre and mail shots to local doctors surgeries and smoking cessation groups.
Everyone who signs up to Get Gym Fit For Life will receive a free fitness test to establish a baseline, a free induction to the gym and a free personally-tailored exercise programme a saving of £26.85!
After that, participants will be able to use the gym facility free of charge for a further seven days. And after eight weeks, participants will be offered a further fitness test to assess results and encourage continued participation in exercise.
Jo-Anne Simpson, Community and Cultural Wellbeing Officer at Richmondshire District Council, said: Summer has well and truly arrived, and this is the perfect opportunity to get fit and save money at the same time!
Get Gym For Life was spearheaded by Richmondshire Local Strategic Partnership, thanks to funding from North Yorkshire County Councils Community Fund, and formed part of an application to the
Healthy Communities Challenge Fund with the North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust.
