Discover the best places to go and what to do in East London with the new ‘London Eastside’ pocket guide produced by Tower Hamlets Council.
“The future belongs to the east” says the Lonely Planet Guide (2008) but you are encouraged to see for yourself with ‘London Eastside : Discover where to go and what to do in East London’ which guides you around some of Tower Hamlets’ unique things to do and its finest and most interesting restaurants, shops and bars.
Take a trip back in time with a visit to Dennis Severs’ House in Spitalfields, go horseriding at Mudchute Park and Farm, try a meditation class at the London Buddhist Centre, create your own photo-portraits at Lupe Gallery in Columbia Road, learn to cook seafood at the famous Billingsgate Fish Market, or how to sail at the Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre, or just wander through the area’s colourful markets soaking up the atmosphere – these are just some of the treats on offer in Tower Hamlets.
‘London Eastside’ - picks out the highlights of historic Spitalfields, as well as other areas like trendy Brick Lane, Columbia Road - with its world famous Sunday Flower Market, St Katharine’s Dock, and the financial hub - Canary Wharf – described as ‘Manhattan on Thames’.
The ‘London Eastside’ guide also gives information on the council produced self-guided themed walks, such as the ‘Movie Map’ through Canary Wharf and ‘Black History Walks’ in the borough where you can wander at your own pace.
