Lib Dems snatch shock win in council by-election

Shock victory for Lib Dems
Liberal Democrats snatched a shock gain from Tories in the latest council by-elections.
Candidate Penny Otton took Suffolk County's Thedwastre South division.
There was an 8.4% net swing since the main polls which took place in May 2005 on the same day as the General Election.
Conservatives easily defended a Squirrels Heath seat at east London's Havering Borough in the only other reported contest this week.
RESULTS:
Havering London Borough - Squirrels Heath: C 1828, Residents 310, Lab 210, Third Way 170, Ukip 134. (May 2006 - Three seats C 2614, 2487, 2423, Residents 512, 486, 474, Lab 440, 414, 401, Ukip 270, Ind 215, Ind 157, Ind 130). C hold. Swing 3.4% Lab to C.
Suffolk County - Thedwastre South: Lib Dem 927, C 833, Green 287, Lab 88, Ukip 85. (May 2005 - C 2247, Lib Dem 1644, Lab 898). Lib Dem gain from C. Swing 8.4% C to Lib Dem.
