On budget and on schedule - that's the message from project leaders behind the £32million refurbishment of Swansea Leisure Centre.
Swansea Council says the exciting scheme is on target to be finished by the end of 2007 and will be available for public use early next year.
Main contractors Laing O'Rourke have now started tiling work at the changing village area of the building and will shortly be installing glass around the top floor of the health and fitness suite.
This upper level of the state-of-the-art gymnasium can be seen rising above the leisure centre roof and will offer sweeping views of Swansea Bay and Mumbles so fitness fans can enjoy stunning scenery while working out.
A plant housing ventilation and temperature control technology has also been completed and tiling work in the water park area will kick-off imminently.
Swansea Council says the finished leisure centre will be among the best of its kind in the UK.
Revellers at the water park will able to wile away the hours at the lazy river, bask in the thrills and spills of a Master Blaster flume ride and enjoy the peaks and troughs of the wave pool.
There will also be a chance for people to try their feet on an indoor surf ride and younger visitors will be sure to make the most of an array of fountains, canons and other interactive features.
The completed facility will also boast a four-storey play zone and a giant sports hall where conferences and concerts can be held.
Swansea Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Gerald Clement, said: "Excitement is really starting to build as we move ever closer towards the completion of refurbishment works at Swansea Leisure Centre.
"We're on schedule to finish the project by the end of the year and will be opening it to the public in early 2008. The Leisure Centre will offer the people of Swansea and visitors to the area a state-of-the-art facility that combines first- sports and conference facilities with the fun of the water park and playzone. This bold and imaginative venture will further help put Swansea on the map."
