Singer and song writer Shakin' Stevens is set to bring a touch of sparkle and magic to St Nicholas Market on Saturday when he switches on the Christmas lights.

Shaky's visit to St Nicholas Market is coupled with his appearance on Saturday evening at Bristol's Colston Hall.

He will be performing rock, rhythm, hits and country blues songs from his eagerly awaited new album 'Now Listen', which is being released in 2007.

The St Nicholas Market Christmas lights switch on event will take place in the Victorian Glass Arcade between 3 and 4pm.

To add to the festive spirit, there will be mulled wine and roasted chestnuts on offer.

And for extra entertainment, the 1950's-style rock and roll band TopKatz will be performing.

Younger visitors to the switch on are invited to look out for special guests: Santa and The Ice Angel.

The Ice Angel is all set to grant your Christmas wishes, while Santa will be handing out early Christmas gifts to children in the crowd.

Steve Morris, markets manager, said: "We welcome Shakin' Stevens to St Nicholas Market - and would like to say a big 'thank you' to Shaky for taking time out of his busy schedule to do the switch on".

"We hope Saturday shoppers will come along, join in the Christmas fun and take a look at the wide variety of stalls - and see what a fantastic range of gifts and goodies St Nicholas Markets have to offer."
