Harlow, Essex
The regeneration of Harlow has taken a major step forward with the creation of a dynamic new company.
The new initiative follows the success in securing a further £10 million of funding from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
The funding will help fund four neighbourhood renewal projects and establish an Innovation Centre for small businesses.
The company is being created by Harlow Council, Essex County Council, the East of England Development Agency and English Partnerships, the national regeneration agency.
Adverts are being placed this week for an independent Chair and four private sector representatives to join the board of the new company.
They will sit alongside representatives from the four founding members and the Harlow 2020 Local Strategic Partnership.
A Chief Executive is also being recruited to head a small team of staff who will support the board.
"The principal focus of this local delivery vehicle will be on making things happen," said a spokesperson for the new company.
"There are many organizations involved in regeneration initiatives in Harlow. Creating this new company will enable us to increase local delivery capability and capacity, improve co-ordination, give added impetus to the work that is already going on in Harlow and increase the overall pace of regeneration and level of investment in the Town."
It is anticipated that key appointments will be made by June.
The company is being established in order to maintain and accelerate the momentum of regeneration initiatives already underway in the town pending decisions on the draft East of England Plan proposals.
