New Charter Housing Group has offered support and extended its sympathies to those involved in today’s gas explosion in Oldham.

New Charter, a Greater Manchester-based housing association that manages properties in Oldham, tweeted: “Our thoughts are with everyone caught up in the gas explosion in Shaw, Oldham.

“Homes affected by the explosion in Oldham are not our properties but Aska Homes will be doing everything we can to support those affected.”

Aska Homes is part of the New Charter Group and is currently building properties at another site in Oldham.

It was earlier confirmed that a child was killed in today's blast at Buckley Street and that a man had suffered 80% burns.

Another man, who was previously unaccounted for, has since been found safe.

The explosion on Buckley Street occurred just after 11am this morning and levelled one property and damaged four more.

The affected homes are thought to be privately rented properties.
