Mr Maurice and Mrs Pam Huttlestone of Hertford have become the 1000th customers to have a community alarm installed by Riversmead Housing Association.

The community alarm service has been running for three years and offers reassurance to users, who can call for help by pressing a button on a pendant worn around the wrist or neck, whenever they feel vulnerable in their home.

The installation was in response to the couple both having falls at home. “It frightens you when you fall over and can’t get back up - you become more aware of what could happen to you” said Mr and Mrs Huttlestone. “Having the community alarm is definitely going to give us more confidence to carry on our everyday lives as normal.”

To celebrate the occasion a bouquet of flowers and gift card were presented to the couple.

Bernie Bush, Riversmead’s Community Alarms Officer, said: “A community alarm should be used by anyone of any age who wants to feel reassured and safe at home. It is encouraging that we have carried out our 1000th installation and so many people are experiencing the life changing benefits and peace of mind the service offers.”
