Congratulations to Rachel Arrandale 13 from Bredbury, who has won the Crescent Park photography competition and a brand new camera. The competition was organised by Stockport Homes and the Friends of Crescent Park.

Rachel’s winning shot named ‘The Daisy’, was described by project leader Andy Moseley from Learn Through Photography as “A unique comment on the effect global warming has on our traditional seasons. Here we see a single summer flower surrounded by brown, dead autumnal leaves. There is a sense of place too, St. Martin’s Church adjacent to Crescent Park frames the image and informs the viewer of the environment. The composition is perfection, showing the stem of the flower in sufficient symmetry to follow the line of the barren tree in the background.”

The competition was open to young people aged between 8 and 16. Peter Egerton, Customer Involvement Officer from Stockport Homes said “Rachel got involved after her grandmother, who lives on our Didsbury Road estate, told her about the project. Photography is such a great medium to have fun with; anyone can take part and all the young people who came learnt something and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”

The judges had a very difficult time in deciding the winner as there were so many to choose from. Two other images highly commended were ‘Goalpost’ by Alice Kingsman from Reddish and ‘Stepping Stones’ by Lashae Brathwaite who’s from Heaton Norris.

Stockport Homes would like to thank everyone who took part and the judges for their hard work; Project Leader Andy Moseley, Learn Through Photography; Amanda Phillipson, Formal Learning Officer; Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and Robert Twigg, Friends of Crescent Park.

Stockport Homes have more projects in the pipeline, so anyone who is interested in getting involved can contact the Stockport Homes Customer Involvement Team on 0161 474 2862.
