Tenants of The Wrekin Housing Trust have been participating in a new course from the housing provider and Marches Energy Agency.  Live4Less aims to help residents do just that by showing them practical ways to cut their outgoings.

The fun and interactive course covered subjects included budgeting, reducing transport costs, improving energy efficiency and switching utilities.  There was also a hands-on cookery demonstration during which tenants helped prepare a tasty and pocket-friendly vegetable hotpot for their lunch.

Tenant Joe Keenan, a Money Mentor for the Trust says: “Savings on outgoings is as good as a pay rise. We all need help with to control money so we can enjoy life! Shop around for things you need, you can always save money”

It’s the first time the two day course has run and attendees were encouraged to give feedback which would benefit future sessions.

David Hall from The Wrekin Housing Trust said: “We’ve been very encouraged by the enthusiasm of tenants that attended the course, not only for the topics covered and the advice given, but also their desire to pass that knowledge on to others.”

Kris McGowan from Marches Energy Agency added: “The tenants were very enthusiastic and great to work with. I think they learned a lot, and not just from me! Hints and tips and advice were coming thick and fast from all corners and I learnt a few things too. There was a lot packed into the two days and plenty of ways in which they can save lots.”

The next course will run in February next year, while a number of residents from the current session have expressed an interest in rolling it out in their own community.  Tenants interested in future courses can contact Carol Smith 01952 217435 or Janice Diss 01952 217248.
