Residents on a housing estate have been learning how to keep safe, warm and well this winter.

A ‘Winter Warmth’ information day was held at Castlefields community centre, in Runcorn, earlier this month with scores of residents popping in to find out more.

The event, which was a joint project between Liverpool Housing Trust (LHT) and Plus Dane, included information on how to keep energy bills under control, how to keep warm in wintery weather and advice on healthy eating.

One of the most popular stalls was the joint LHT and Plus Dane stand where room thermometers, hand warmers and slipper socks were given away free.

There were advisors on hand to help with questions about energy efficiency, fuel poverty, employment, training, benefits and home safety.

Jane Smith, LHT regeneration officer, said: “The day was a great success with scores of residents coming in to the community centre to clue themselves up before winter really starts to bite.

“It wasn’t just tenants who attended but everyone from the whole Castlefields community so it was a nice event to bring people together too.”
