Youngsters can beat the school holidays blues this Christmas with an action-packed diary of free events from cake making and drama workshops to roller discos and football training.
Liverpool Housing Trust (LHT), part of Symphony Housing Group has launched the ‘Beat Festive Boredom’ project - a three week calendar of sport, arts and outdoorsy activities to keep up to 1,000 young people busy over the festive break.
The highlights include hill walking in Wales, rapping workshops, a pool tournament, Christmas party, roller disco and days out to museums, bowling alleys and visitor attractions.
LHT’s aim with the ‘Beat Festive Boredom’ project is to help hundreds of young people across Merseyside and Cheshire to be active, engaged and have fun over the holidays with the help of scores of youth workers and volunteers.
The ‘Beat Festive Boredom’ project has its own website – www.beatfestiveboredom.com – where young people can see the activities taking place and choose which ones they want to join in with.
Lisa Bedding, LHT regeneration team leader, said: “The Christmas holidays can drag when you’re a young person so we’ve come up with a calendar of events which banishes the boredom.
“From Walton to Runcorn and Kirkdale to Kensington there will be activities taking place in community centres, playing fields and youth clubs.
“If you’re mad about football then there’s the chance to hone your skills in the beautiful game with our football training.
“If you love the ‘X Factor’ we have our own LHT talent show for young people to perform in.
“Almost every day during the school holidays we have two or three different events or activities going on to keep young people busy.
“With our ‘Beat Festive Boredom’ project there’s no reason to sit in front of the television watching repeats. Young people can join their friends, and make new ones, by taking part in one of the hundreds of boredom-busting activities.”
