John Howell, MP, today opened a new Soha Housing development for older people at Mowforth Close in Woodcote.

Twelve one and two-bed apartments are occupied with residents having been assisted to move out of the adjacent former Olga Mowforth House, a 1960s scheme which no longer suited today's requirements.

The development started nearly two years ago.  Resident of 10 years, Doris Rook (pictured far right with Mr Howell) said, I'm really excited about moving over to the new Mowforth House - Soha has kept us informed every step of the way.  As well as consulting with us and the village before the site got planning permission, Soha has been able to go along with residents' individual requests in every case.  We gave our opinions on the design of the block, the choices of carpets, kitchens, wall tiles and wall colours and also worked with the interior designer on the furniture and wall colours for the new sitting room!"

John Howell said, "I am absolutely delighted to be able to open Mowforth House and share in this celebration.  The previous property was not of the standard that we expect today - these new homes are just what we do expect.  Residents have been involved throughout the process of redevelopment and I hope that they will all enjoy their new homes.  I applaud this commitment to the community at Woodcote."

Cllr Felix Bloomfield, Chairman of South Oxfordshire District Council, added: "It's a pleasure to work in partnership with Soha on so many projects across the District - they are always of high quality and sustainable design.  I know from speaking to residents that they are always happy to move into a newly built Soha property."
