Four new apprentices have joined the Wrekin Housing Trust, Jon Madeley and Kieran Hall both from Wellington and Jake Holcroft from Broseley will be spending the next two years at the trust learning a trade whilst attending a Building Maintenance Operations course at Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology.  Luke Clarke from Lower Gornall, Dudley has also been taken on and will follow a similar day release programme in carpentry at Stourbridge College while working on the Trust’s midlands housing contracts.

The Trust launched an Apprenticeship scheme in 2007 to increase its number of trades employees and to kick start employment for people across its operating area.  Each year a number of ambitious, hard-working individuals have been given the opportunity to learn a range of skills by working with the Trust’s experienced trades people.

The Apprentices were selected during two assessment days, giving Trust managers the chance to see the quality of their work. Over 100 young people were invited to attend the events where candidates were assessed on their practical and interpersonal skills. The Apprentices will now spend four days per week working at the Trust and one day at college studying towards their range of qualifications including NVQs and college diplomas.

Tim Munro, OD Consultant said: “The Apprentices are the Trust’s future workforce and will play an important role in the on-going maintenance of our properties.  The scheme is also helping to create jobs for local people.  The apprentices have a great opportunity to learn new skills with us whilst they continue with their studies. We are looking forward to seeing them progress with their careers at the Trust and provide great service to you for years to come.”

“It’s important we play our part in the economic regeneration of Shropshire by creating sustainable neighbourhoods and communities.  The apprenticeships are just one of a number of ways the Trust is doing that.
