Total Glass, one of the UK’s leading PVC-U and aluminium fabricators, has achieved the Secured by Design (SBD) licence for its high security aluminium Communal Entrance Door range.
This ‘Police Preferred Specification’ status was achieved on its award-winning Total Glass high-security communal entrance door, which is designed specifically for multiple occupancy residential properties in the social housing sector.
The Liverpool-based fabricator believes this means it can now offer the most highly-accredited aluminium communal entrance door on the UK market. Since its launch last year, this successful product has been widely specified by social housing professionals across the UK and was named Product/Innovation of the Year in the Annual Builder & Engineer Awards 2010.
“As far as we’re aware, our Total Glass communal entrance door is currently the most-accredited door of its type. Client feedback shows that it is meeting a strong market need for a robust, yet contemporary-looking door that can withstand the toughest locations,” says Frank Deary, Total Group Managing Director.
Secured by Design is the official UK police approval for security products that ensures they are designed, manufactured and tested in accordance with strict rigid guidelines. Owned by the Association of Chief Police Officers, the initiative is aimed at reducing crime in communities through product strength and security.
Manufactured to BSI ISO 9001 quality specifications, the door also conforms to BS PAS 23-1:1999 and BS PAS 24-1:2007 standards of cycle test and enhanced security performance.
“Being able to offer SBD-accredited doors reinforces our commitment to supplying the best quality, high performance products for our customers across all the markets we serve,” continues Frank.
He adds: “Secured by Design is a nationally-recognised accreditation providing instant reassurance to end users that a product has been deemed by the police to provide a realistic level of resistance to criminal attack and therefore better protection from would-be intrusion.”
