Patricia McCabe, Vice-Chair of the Trident Social Investment Group (TSIG), was recognised for her outstanding contribution towards creating a fairer society at the inaugural European Diversity Awards 2011, held at the Savoy Hotel in London earlier this week.
Despite extremely tough competition from global conglomerates, as a champion of equality, diversity and inclusion, Patricia was able to demonstrate her commitment ahead of other senior leaders from the corporate and public sectors from across Europe.
Whilst equality is enshrined in European and national law, it must be acknowledged that it is much harder to change attitudes than it is to pass legislation. A fair society is the result of education, upbringing and cultural influences where diversity is celebrated and the crucial role that organisations and individuals play, as well as governments and legislators must not be underestimated.
Patricia McCabe said, ‘I am delighted to have been shortlisted for the Diversity Champion of the year award. When I saw the calibre of people I was up against and was able to appreciate their achievements, I felt so proud to be in such good company. There is much work to be done and a long way to go before we achieve true equality, but it is good to reflect on what has been achieved so far.’
