Residents of Sarsen Housing Association organised a pancake and plant day on February 22 (Tuesday).

More than 15 residents turned out for the event in Victoria Road, Devizes, where children helped to plant a variety of flowers in large planters, which were kindly donated by Focus in Devizes. They were also asked which vegetables they would like to see growing in the summer in an attempt to encourage healthy eating. Afterwards, they rewarded themselves with a pancake lunch.

The aim of event was to improve the local area and attract wildlife, as part of a series of projects organised by the Victoria Road community after it received a community grant from Sarsen last year.

Kerry Muir, neighbourhood involvement office at Sarsen, said: “The event was the next step in our mission to help residents take ownership of the land and feel proud of what they’ve done so far. We’ve had a lot of help from Devizes Town Council, who also supplied us with the soil.

“We’ll also be bringing in help from the Wiltshire Wildlife team in a couple of months time, to teach residents how to look after their flower beds.”
