Shepherds Bush Housing Group has taken its volunteering commitment to the next level by signing up to London's Volunteer Management Charter.

The Charter is awarded to organisations who offer excellent volunteering. It offers volunteers the assurance that they are working with an organisation that supports and values them.

SBHG currently has 51 volunteers. In return for their commitment, SBHG gives them training and support to acquire new skills.

SBHG's volunteer co-ordinator Jennette Skinner said: "Our volunteers are an invaluable part of the organisation. They offer boundless energy and commitment and enrich the work we do. Signing up to the Charter means we receive help and support to scrutinise our volunteering and identify if there's anything we can do better. We've already secured Investing in Volunteering status but are always keen to improve what we do."

The Charter has been developed by Greater London Volunteering (GLV) in close collaboration with London's 32 Volunteer Centres. The Charter is endorsed by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who said: "I welcome the London Volunteer Management Charter as an exciting initiative that will continue to improve volunteering experiences in our capital. Every hour donated by volunteers helps make London a more civilised and pleasant place in which to work, visit and live."

As part of its sign-up SBHG will now undertake a volunteering health check.
