Residents of RCT Homes’ properties in Cwmbach are being invited to an exclusive showhome which has been set up on their own doorstep to showcase the type of works that will be carried out in their homes as part of an extensive upgrade programme.
The temporary showhome has been created by Connaught Partnerships to display the kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and living rooms that will be installed in local homes as part of the company’s work on behalf of RCT Homes.
It will give tenants the opportunity to see the choices of fitted units and finishes that are available to them as well as ask the Connaught team any questions which they may have about the work.
Connaught has been carrying out work on the RCT Homes housing project in Cwmbach over the last three months and is working to upgrade 4,300 homes across the Rhondda Cynon Taf area with new bathrooms, kitchens, electrical rewiring and gas systems.
Connaught’s RCT Homes project manager Johnathan Bell, said: “We know that it can be a little daunting trying to picture what a room in your home will look like after work has taken place, especially when it is one of the areas which you rely on the most.
"We want to give tenants the chance to see the finished results so that they can picture what the kitchen and bathrooms will look like in their own homes. Members of our team will also be on hand to answer any queries they may have about forthcoming work.
“Even if residents weren’t able to make it to the opening event, they are still urged to come along at any time between 9am and 2pm, Monday to Friday. The showhome will be open for three months, so there is plenty of time to come and see the example kitchens and bathrooms.”
Local resident Beryl Tenant was one of the first people to visit the new showhome and see the changes that could be made to her home over the coming months. She was accompanied by neighbour Kay Lacey who has recently had her kitchen replaced as part of the improvement works.
Kay said: “Beryl knew that I’d had my kitchen done and wanted to speak to Connaught about getting hers done at some point, so we both went and had a look at the showhome together. It gave her the chance to see what her house could look like and ask questions at the same time.
"The boys from Connaught who worked in my house were brilliant, they were so quiet and considerate; I never heard a word out of them. They just got on with it and were no trouble at all. I’m really pleased with my new units and the job that they have done.”
RCT Homes became the largest social landlord in Wales on its creation in December 2007, following the formal transfer of social housing stock and services from Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
Connaught Partnerships are working across Rhondda Cynon Taf to deliver an extensive upgrade programme to houses which are owned by RCT Homes.
As part of the largest improvement programme in Wales, the construction partnership expects to install 5,000 new kitchens, 4,000 new bathrooms, 6,000 energy-efficient boilers and thousands of doors.
Other improvements include extensive re-wiring, improved security measures, work on roofs and a promised £1 million a year on environmental enhancements.
