On a Saturday 7 August 250 residents at Pollards Hill enjoyed lots of great activities at their neighbourhood fun day. The day was organised by residents with support and funding from Moat, The New Horizon centre, Pollards Hill library and the youth centre. It was a great opportunity to see the various agencies working in partnership to make the event successful.
The event was well attended by all ages, and the Mayor of Merton, Council Cllr Oonagh Moulton, was on hand to enjoy it as well. Activities included an army assault course, paintballing, a reaction wall, music and performances including Prodigy street dancers, a bollywood dance group Kuntal, belly dancer, Anne Dryden, drummer, Thel, and a local karate group. There was a barbecue and young residents were able to enjoy a roundabout and a bouncy castle. The local fire engine was also in attendance.
Pollards Hill resident, Jenny Hill, says; “It was lovely to see such a mix of age groups enjoying themselves and getting to know each other”. Many residents took the opportunity to make enquiries about becoming a member of the Pollards Hill residents’ association, called Phoenix.
Prior to the estate transfer to Moat in 1998, the homes at Pollard Hill’s homes required substantial redevelopment. Seven years later, Moat completed a regeneration project that saw the successful refurbishment of 740 homes and the building of 234 new properties in partnership with Higgins Group PLC. Moat is also in the tenth year of implementing a 30-year £3 million community development programme to ensure the regeneration is self-sustaining and that there is an improved quality of life for people in the community.
