A housing boss has been sacked from his £90,000-a-year job
after a national newspaper exposed his racist and anti-semitic
behaviour.
Gareth Mead, who was assitant director for Housing Options at
Hammersmith & Fulham Council, was dismissed for gross
misconduct following a disciplinary hearing last week.
His sacking followed a report in the Sunday Mirror which alleged
that the 44-year-olf dressed up in Nazi uniforms and sent racist
messages to other men he met online.
Hammersmith & Fulham council boss Geoff Alltimes said:
"Councillors, managers and staff have been shocked, saddened and
sickened by Mr Mead's admissions.
"The council has acted quickly and decisively after the grossly
offensive, racist and anti-semitic content."
Mead had been responsible for social housing and homelessness in
the London borough, where almost a quarter of the 176,000 residents
are from ethnic minorities.
According to the Sunday Mirror his antics included engaging in
kinky Nazi role-play games, dressing in leather SS uniforms and
jackboots, posing in front of a swastika flag and wielding a World
War Two-style pistol.
He is also alleged to have sent numerous hate-filled racist and
anti-semitic messages.
