London Councils has welcomed news that the government has increased a special grant to help boroughs in capital build some desperately-needed new homes.
London boroughs will receive a total of £16.5 million through the Housing and Planning Delivery Grant (HPDG), nearly £2 million more than the previously announced provisional figure. The increase follows negotiations led by London Councils.
HPDG is allocated according to the progress boroughs have made on a number of housing and planning issues including processing planning applications quickly. London boroughs have received an average of £500,000 each compared to an average of £370,000 across the rest of the country. This is in recognition of the progress that boroughs have made in providing new homes for Londoners.
London Councils Executive Member for Planning, Councillor Chris Roberts said: “We are delighted the government has recognised the hard work that boroughs have put into providing more homes for Londoners.
“This grant will be of huge benefit to people living in
the capital. More money to support more homes is great news for
Londoners”.
