Gentoo Group – one of the largest and most forward-thinking names in the housing sector has signed up with payment specialist allpay to issue allpay Prepaid MasterCard® Cards.

allpay developed the card by working closely with its 750 existing clients, who are predominantly local government, housing associations and credit unions. And since its launch last year, the allpay Prepaid MasterCard® Card, issued by PrePay Technologies Ltd., has appealed to a wide range of organisations looking to modernise their payment methods and move away from costly cash, cheques and vouchers.

allpay has made the card simple to set up and use through a fully web-based card management system. And there are numerous benefits to using it, including cost savings, improved control and security over an organisation’s funds and more choice and convenience for customers – benefits Gentoo certainly seem to be enjoying…

Andrew Taylor, Deputy Chief Executive said: “At Gentoo, we are committed to tackling financial exclusion through a range of successful initiatives. Opening up access to online services and other ways for our customers to save money is really important to us. allpay’s Prepaid Cards will allow our customers, who don’t have the luxury of bank accounts, to receive payments without having to take cheques to places that charge high rates for cashing them.”

Gentoo decided to pilot a scheme with allpay following consultation with their Income Management Customer Focus Group and because of its complementary fit with Gentoo Group’s overall financial inclusion agenda.

“It really is a step forward,” says Andrew, “utilising modern technology to enable the move away from having to carry money and paying small amounts of petty cash to large groups of people, whilst also streamlining and improving the services we offer to our customers.”

And they’re even looking to the future: “If this pilot is successful, in the future this product could also be an ideal replacement for cash and cheque transactions across Gentoo, saving us both time and money. There may be options for it to be used in various guises across the Group from making payments to customers and staff when attending conferences and events. Whilst we are only in the early stages of the pilot, feedback from both staff and customers has been very positive.”

allpay Managing Director Tony Killeen comments: “We really are passionate about the benefits our Prepaid Cards can bring to both the public and private sectors and are delighted to be working with such forward-thinking organisations as Gentoo to make payments easier, safer and more efficient for their staff and customers.”

He goes on to say, “I’m confident that this new addition to our payment portfolio will be just as successful as our core bill payment business. We’re really excited to be bringing our Prepaid Cards to the NHF Housing Finance Conference & Exhibition this year, where delegates will even be able to see payments in action whilst at the same time activating a donation to the charity Homeless Link.”

You can see the allpay team and discuss the Prepaid Card in more detail on the 24th-25th March at NHF Housing Finance Conference & Exhibition in Warwick, Stand 92.
